SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 44

Requesting the Division of Highways name the bridge crossing the
Tug River on U. S. Route 119 in Williamson the "General Robert
H. Foglesong Bridge".

Whereas, General Robert H. Foglesong, a native of Williamson,
Mingo County, and a graduate of West Virginia University, achieved
the military rank of four-star general in the United States Air
Force on November 5, 2001; and

Whereas, General Robert H. Foglesong became only the third
West Virginian to earn a four-star general rank; and

Whereas, General Robert H. Foglesong is Vice Chief of Staff,
Headquarters U. S. Air Force, Washington, D. C., and presides over
the Air Staff and serves as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Joint Requirements Oversight Council; and

Whereas, General Robert H. Foglesong is a five-time commander
whose staff tours include duty as Chief of Staff of the Air Force
Chair and Professor of Joint and Combined Warfare, National War
College; Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in
Washington, D. C; Commander, U. S. Southern Command Air Forces; and
Deputy Chief of Staff for Air and Space Operations at Headquarters
U. S. Air Force; and

Whereas, General Robert H. Foglesong is a command pilot with over 3,800 flight hours and has received numerous major awards and
decorations, including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the
Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal,
the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service
Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Aerial Achievement Medal
with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with
two oak leaf clusters and the Air Force Achievement Medal;
therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways
name the bridge crossing the Tug River on U. S. Route 119 in
Williamson the "General Robert H. Foglesong Bridge" in tribute to
a man who has dedicated his life to the service of his nation; and,
be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is requested
to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge crossing
the Tug River on U. S. Route 119 in Williamson as the "General
Robert H. Foglesong Bridge";

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Secretary of
the Department of Transportation.
